Forgotten in Death gives us a glimpse into Eve Dallas and her job as a New York City Homicide Detective. Today she is called to deal with a body tossed in a dumpster. The victim is a woman of no fixed address. She is known for offering paper flowers in return for spare change. She is also known for keeping the cops informed of any infractions she witnessed on the street. However, the notebook she uses to write down details of the offenders is missing. To compound this problem, Eve is summoned to another construction site to view more remains—in this case, decades old, adorned with gold jewelry and fine clothing—unearthed by recent construction work. This is disturbing to Eve because the site belongs to her husband, Roarke.
Eve is not all that surprised because Roark owns a great deal of New York real estate, As Eve begins to unravel these murders, she finds herself dealing in the world of real estate developers. Uncovering past secrets that could turn the lives of some of the cities upstanding citizens live into nightmares. Eve forges ahead to encounter old ladies wielding guns and old gangsters who just want to be doting grandfathers. Along the way, we get a glimpse of Eve’s friend and her relationship with her Irish millionaire husband, who used to be less than an upstanding citizen himself.
I have read all of the books in this series up to number 54. I have enjoyed them and found them hard to put down. If you like a good murder mystery with a side of romance, this is an excellent choice. Forgotten in Death is book number 53 in the series.
